A Sweet, Delicious Candy Treat in the Produce Dept.?
We are appoaching the best month for local produce-August! We are already starting to get in lots of local produce items as you will see on our Fresh Values page.
Two vegetables in particular, the Red Candy Apple Onion and the White Candy Onion, from Wisconsin Growers, are very plentiful in our produce department!
What’s so great about a candy onion? Well, as its name implies, it is much sweeter than a typical onion, similar to the walla walla. These onions, especially the red variety, are ideal for fresh eating and cooking. They have a delicious flavor that allows you to eat them raw and they can add amazing zest to any recipe. Candy onions, unlike their walla walla sister, are day-netural, meaning they are not affected by the length of the day, allowing them to grow well in both North and South latitudes.
