Summer Heat Means You Need to Have a Cold Drink Handy!

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

Summer heat means we’re all looking to cool off a bit with a nice, chilled beverage, but that doesn’t mean we necessarily need to sacrifice our old friend, caffeine.  Now is the time of year to savor a sweet, iced coffee drink.  Come by Valley Natural Foods to enjoy one of our cold coffee drinks from the deli and take advantage of our online coupon for $1 off the coffee drink of the month—July is the Stars and Stripes Coffee Frappe before the month is out!

If the heat hasn’t got you completely beat, take a crack at making your own iced-coffee concoction.  Start with brewing your favorite fresh coffee in the morning (or night before) and chill it in fridge in jar; it will keep for about two or three days.  All you’ve got to do is fill a glass with plenty of ice cubes, then pour your chilled coffee over the ice and add about 2 Tbsp. of condensed milk to taste.  Feel free to get creative and add maple syrup, agave nectar, honey, or brown sugar in place of condensed milk. Drink your mixture as is or add a pinch of cinnamon, cardamom or a splash of vanilla. Be your own barista and pretty much anything goes!

If you’re a tea drinker don’t feel left out—we’ve got you covered.  Make a gallon of sun tea, chill, and then pour half tea, half pineapple juice over ice in tall glass, garnish with fresh mint or sugar cane. Delicious!  Don’t hesitate to invent your own combinations and mix up your own creations by adding lemonade, limeade, berries or whatever else you can dream up.  Here’s to a cold drink in the summer sunshine!
