Tips for Preparing your Turkey
Here are some tips for preparing your turkey this Thanksgiving:
Thawing Frozen Turkeys:
- In the refrigerator: Place in a pan and keep wrapped. Allow 24 hours of thawing per five pounds.
- In cold water: Keep wrapped and allow 30 minutes of thawing per pound.
Roasting Times for Turkeys ( in the oven at 325 degrees):
- Unstuffed : 12 minutes per pound
- Stuffed: 14 minutes per pound
- Cooking a frozen turkey: You can do this but allow 50% more cook time.
- Remember! Remove giblet packages prior to cooking.
Fully-cooked Turkey Temperatures:
- Whole Turkey (unstuffed): 180 degrees at the the thickest part of the thigh; 170 degrees at the thickest part of the breast
- Whole Turkey (stuffed): 165 degrees at the center of the stuffing; 180 degrees at the thickest part of the thigh
