Celebrate National Ice Cream Day
Did you know that in 1984 President Ronald Reagan designated July as National Ice Cream Month? He also named the third Sunday as National Ice Cream Day! On Sunday, July 20th, Valley Natural Foods will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of National Ice Cream Day with a blowout 20% off sale on all of its ice cream brands!*
Ice cream is a wonderful treat in the summer and we have many local brands to try, including some new ones and many gluten free and/or dairy-free varieties too.

Local Ice Cream
Made locally in St. Paul, LUV Ice Creams’ owners, Susanna and Ilya, pride themselves in making sugar-free, gluten-free ice cream, naturally sweetened with stevia that still tastes great with wholesome, natural and certified organic ingredients. They also make vegan, dairy-free options too. Valley Natural Foods carries their pint-size gluten-free varieties of You Make Me Blush Strawberry, Where is this RelationCHIP Going? Chocolate Chip, Friend Zoned French Vanilla and The Morning After Coffee. Look for their gluten-free, dairy–free varieties of Sangria Sorbet, I’m CocoNUTS about You, Choo-Choo Choose Me ChocoNut, Pick Me Strawberry, Two Nuts in LUV Coconut Chai Pistachio and My Main Squeeze Coconut Lemon.
With ice cream shops in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Izzy’s owners, Jeff and Lara, use hormone-free cream from a local Wisconsin family farm to hand make their 150 unique flavor combinations. Valley Natural Foods carries their pint-size Chocolate, Cinnamon, Summit Oatmeal Stout, Maple, Mint Choco Chip, Salted Caramel, Strawberry, and Vanilla flavors.
Handcrafted locally in Minneapolis, Pumphouse Creamery ice cream uses only natural and organic ingredients sourced from local farmers. Valley Natural Foods’ carries their chocolate, sea salt caramel and vanilla flavors, available in quart size containers.
Other new ice cream brands the co-op has added within the last few months to its product lineup include Steve’s Ice Cream, Three Twins Ice Cream and Talenti’s gelato pops.
Beyond these brands, Valley Natural Foods has a wide variety of dairy-free and gluten-free ice cream and gelato options such as Almond Dream, Dream Gelato, Luna & Larry’s Coconut Bliss, Talenti Gelato, Tofutii, and Rice Dream.
Other dairy-free only ice cream varieties include So Delicious and Purely Decadent.
Regular ice cream, gelato, frozen fruit bars, and/or frozen yogurt brands that the co-op carries are Alden’s Organic, Jule’s Organic, Ben & Jerry’s, Ciao Bella gelato sandwiches, Stonyfield Organic, Deebee’s Tea Pops, Probugs Frozen Kefir, Natural Choice frozen fruit bars and Jolly llama sorbet pops.
