New and vital thinking has us considering the promise of a balance that stays true to values of protecting, sustaining and allowing the earth, its wildlife, our fellow human beings—and ourselves—to heal and flourish. The wellness department at Valley Natural Foods pursues a balanced approach to building awareness of authentic product selections by seeking to introduce customers to new options in the market. Evan Healy stays true to the belief that the skin is the largest organ of the body, and that properly balancing four basic elements—oil, water, clay and Shea—establishes a healthier and more stable protective mantle. This protects the skin from harmful and damaging bacteria. Healy searches for raw materials that are sustainably and organically grown and follows fair trade practices in buying them for her sustainable facial care line. Her thoughtful purchases of Shea butter support an entire community of women and children in Ghana. Lavender Hydrosoul facial spray is made from hand-harvested, sustainably-grown plants. Even the earth that bears the rose geranium in another facial tonic is carefully nurtured to carry a healthy balance of minerals, air, water and organic matter.
Garden of Life focuses on balancing the human biome as the foundation for health. The Human Microbiome Project, initiated in 2008 by the National Institutes of Health, found a connection between health, disease and the balance of bacteria, yeasts, viruses and parasites in the body. Garden of Life formulas focuses on probiotic and prebiotic raw, organic, whole foods and enzymes that support a healthy gut wall. Many Garden of Life formulas have been directed by Dr. David Perlmutter, author of The Grain Brain whose masterful books teach us how to build a healthy intestinal wall. The website states, “We are interested in building relationships with people to help them transform their lives to attain extraordinary health.”
