Meet the Managers: Meat Manager, Otis

Meet the Managers of Valley Natural Foods

October is National Cooperative Month and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate all month long.

We wouldn’t be what we are today without our shoppers and member-owners, we wouldn’t be who we are without the leadership of our managers!

This month, we’ll be introducing all of our store managers and give you a glimpse into who they are, why they love being a part of VNF, and what they love outside of the co-op.

Please meet Otis– our Meat Manager!

__________

How long have you been at Valley Natural Foods? I’ve been the Meat Manager at Valley Natural Foods for about 13 months.

Why do you love being a part of a co-op? I like being a part of the company because it has taught me a lot of new things, and I’ve been exposed to new products that I didn’t know were available, as well as all of the local producers that are close by us.

What’s your favorite product from the Meat Department? Beef, always Beef! I love the versatility of it and everything you can do with it – as well as utilizing all the different cut options. I really enjoy how you can break it down to a specific muscle group that fits perfectly with something someone is trying to make.

What’s your favorite way to spend a day off? I enjoy meeting up with my sisters and our kids, just cooking and relaxing. I also enjoy golfing when I can spare the time for it.

What are a couple of things you can’t live without and why? My daughter, water, and food. They’re the basics, everything on top of that is gravy!

What was the last TV show you binged or book you read? I recently watched Midsomer Murders, because I like shows that make you think, and the cast is pretty good. I haven’t been keeping up on my reading lately, but I enjoyed “The Wheel of Time” series, and used to read a lot of autobiographies, as well as WWII books.

What’s your go-to coffee/tea order? Medium roast coffee. Black. No frills, but it gets the job done.
